Christy Burch is a dedicated public servant that has spent her adult life working to improve public safety and education. She was born and raised in Southern Maryland, daughter of Daniel and Tere Burch. Her parents instilled in her a strong belief in the values of education, hard work, integrity and public service. Christy enjoys exercising on the boardwalk in North Beach, boating on the Chesapeake Bay and studying local history, especially the Civil War.
After graduating from Bishop McNamara High School, Christy attended the University of Maryland College Park where she received a Bachelors of Science in physiology and neurobiology. While at Maryland, she volunteered her services in the community as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Following her graduation from the University of Maryland, Christy’s dedication to public service was channeled into her career as firefighter and paramedic. She completed over seven years of service until she was retired last year due injury sustained in the line of duty. Christy now teaches Paramedic courses at various community colleges in the region.
Christy has always been an advocate for her coworkers and her community. As a union representative, she fought to ensure that employees received fair wages and that their rights were protected. As a member of the Board of Directors for her homeowners association, Christy exercised fiduciary responsibility and ensured that the residents received the best services available. In addition, she continues to be a voice of reason in her community as an activist ensuring that government is transparent and effective.
Although Christy can no longer respond to emergency calls for help as a firefighter or paramedic, she continues to respond to the call for public service. As a Calvert County Commissioner, Christy will protect and improve the quality of life is so important to all of us.
