Christy participated in the League of Women Voters (LWV) forum for Calvert County Commissioner candidates held at Huntingtown High School. There were 15 candidates in attendance. Each candidate was allowed a two minute opening statement, a one minute response to each question, and a one minute closing statement. The LWV also published the candidates' responses to a questionnaire in The Calvert Independent. The same information is also available for pdf download at the LWV website. The questions are listed on page 24. Christy's responses are on page 25.

Christy participated in the Calvert County Farm Bureau forum for Calvert County Commissioner candidates. It was a laid back atmosphere in Prince Frederick, but the issues were serious. Topics ranged from the agri-tourism to the regulations surrounding nutrient management.

Christy attended the Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS Volunteers forum for candidates for Calvert County Commissioner. It was definitely an interesting evening! The forum was held at the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department. Special thanks to Chief Jonathan Riffe for organizing this event.

Christy attended the Riverside Democratic Club at the Asbury Solomons Auditorium. The Riverside Democratic Club held a forum for all Democratic candidates for Calvert County Commissioner. The forum even included questions from the floor. It was a mostly older crowd, but well informed and energetic! A special thanks to Russ Horton for organizing the forum.

Christy attended the Calvert County Democratic Club meeting at Adams Ribs in Prince Frederick. Christy spoke for a few minutes about her message to an enthusiastic crowd. All Democratic candidates were given the chance to address the audience for a few minutes and were well received.

Christy's fundraiser at Fridays Creek Winery in Owings was a success. Christy enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and see old friends. Blondie's Baking Company of North Beach provided delicious food that complemented the wonderful wine. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the campaign. Special thanks to Senator Mike Miller and Candidate for Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker for taking time away from their own campaigns to attend the event.

Christy just received her first endorsement from the AFL-CIO Tri County Committee on Political Education (COPE)! Only after completing an extensive survey questionnaire and a panel interview did Christy receive labor’s endorsement. On May 25, Christy and many other members of the community met at the Holiday Inn in Solomons, Maryland for a public forum on the possible third nuclear reactor at Calvert Cliffs. Approximately 100 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 26) attended the event to show support for the estimated 4,000 temporary construction jobs that would be generated by adding a third reactor. Some pointed out environmental concerns for the project, such as lack of watershed baseline data for nutrients and sediment and reforestation issues. However, the vast majority of the speakers were in favor of the third nuclear reactor that would create approximately 360 permanent jobs in Calvert County.

Christy observed the contract negotiations session at the Calvert County Board of Education. The Calvert Education Association (CEA), which represents Calvert County’s teachers, and the Calvert Association of Educational Support Staff (CAESS) were in joint session with the County to discuss health care and contract duration. The State Highway Administration presented the results of the planning study for the Route 4 Thomas Johnson Bridge to St. Mary’s County to Christy and dozens of other Calvert County residents. The Solomons Civic Association and the Solomons Business Association hosted the event at the Calvert Marine Museum. Several residents voiced concerned with overall aesthetics, cost, and placement of any new structure. More public hearings are scheduled for the late summer/early fall of this year.

Christy and several other members of the community witnessed the official unveiling of a storyboard on the Third Street finger pier in North Beach, MD entitled “Picturing the Past.” The storyboard was funded in part by a grant from the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium. Norma Jean Smith, chairwoman of the town's Historic Preservation Commission, reflected briefly on the Town of North Beach’s history and stated that other storyboards would follow as funding allows.

Christy participated in the 10th Annual Robbie Miles Family 5K Run/Walk in Prince Frederick. A beautiful morning provided a cheerful backdrop for this family friendly event. For ten years now, the first weekend in May has been used to honor Robbie’s memory, draw attention to Calvert Hospice, and raise money for this compassionate organization.

Christy and over one hundred community volunteers braved the dismal weather forecast and participated in the Third Annual Plant the Town event in North Beach, MD. Volunteers removed trash and debris from the marsh area and planted fresh flowers donated by Comcast in the raised flower beds along the boardwalk. The good weather held out and dozens of younger helpers from the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maryland assisted with the planting and mulching. Once the hard work was completed, volunteers rested on the boardwalk while listening to live music and enjoying a cook out.

Christy and several other volunteers spent day at Huntingtown High School registering young voters. This bipartisan effort was performed in conjunction with the Calvert County Board of Elections and resulted in dozens of newly registered voters from Huntingtown High School. Similar voter registration drives were conducted at Northern High School, Calvert High School, Patuxent High School, and the College of Southern Maryland during the month of April.

Christy teamed up with several other members of the community at the Dunkirk Safeway. The team partnered up with Safeway in one of its biannual fundraising events for Easter Seals. The money raised is used for local chapters of Easter Seals that help people with disabilities or Autism. Some team members managed a raffle table out front, while others bagged groceries. With Easter arriving in less than 24 hours, the store was bustling. To speed up the checkout lines, Christy helped bagged groceries for three hours while encouraging patrons to make donations to Easter Seals. She has a new found appreciation for courtesy clerks.

Christy enjoyed the 27th Legislative District Reception in Annapolis. Many residents from the 27th (Northern Calvert County) District attended this open house event and shared their concerns with Christy. She also listened to more formal comments from Senator Mike Miller and Delegate Sue Kullen. The focus of discussion was on ways to bring money and state projects home to Calvert County.

Christy attended a fundraiser for Percy Alston, candidate for State Delegate in District 27A, at the Chesapeake Grille & Deli in Dunkirk. She enjoyed good food and conversation with local residents in this laid back setting. Members of various local law enforcement agencies and volunteer fire departments discussed their public safety concerns for Calvert County.

Christy attended Mark Frazer’s United Way of Calvert County Fundraiser at the Westlawn Inn in North Beach, Maryland. Mark has previously served as a Calvert County Commissioner and as the Mayor of the Town of North Beach. Though not currently in office, Mark continues to work as an advocate for our community. As a result of his tremendous fundraising efforts, Mark was crowned the King of Mardi Gras at the United Way’s annual celebration.

Christy attended the first ever Southern Maryland Democratic Summit. This excellent networking and training event was organized by Calvert County Democratic Central Committee Chairman Chris Reynolds. Speakers included Senator Barbara Mikulski, Congressman Steny Hoyer, Senator Mike Miller, and Delegate Sue Kullen. Held at the Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa, the summit covered a broad range of topics from the health care debate on Capitol Hill to the condition of the Chesapeake Bay. The summit provided additional sessions that focused on recruiting new candidates for political office and campaign training. This was a great opportunity to participate in an event that exclusively focused on the needs of the residents of Calvert County and Southern Maryland.
